REGISTRATION IS OPEN NOW FOR THE 2020-2021 STUDIO YEAR
WHO DO YOU TEACH?
- I teach students age 4 and older, including adults. Some are beginners, many play for fun and personal enrichment, and some are at the advanced level and have placed at state and international competitions.
HOW DOES THIS WORK?
- I teach private lessons, which means that your lesson time is for you/your child alone.
- Lessons are once a week. Lessons can be 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes long.
- New students can begin lessons anytime during the year.
- Please contact me to discuss the calendar and tuition fees.
- After you contact me and we chat, we can go to the next step, which is an interview. This gives us and your child a chance to talk a little more about lessons, try things on the piano, and see if everyone is comfortable.
- After the interview, we look at our schedules and see when regular lessons can be scheduled.
WHAT DOES YOUR YEARLY TUITION COVER?
- Time spent with the student in lessons, group classes, recitals, etc.
- Time spent in preparation for the student, such as trips to the music store, lesson planning, development of curriculum, readiness of materials, etc.
- Recital costs and preparation.
- Memberships in professional organizations that enhance my teaching skills and provide students with opportunities for festivals, competitions, and performance events.
- Attendance at professional conventions, conferences, and music organization meetings that assist me in keeping current on new teaching materials and trends.
- Music books for the library and other materials that are new resources for students.
- Continuing education and research that keeps me current on methods and techniques.
HOW DO I KNOW IF MY YOUNG CHILD IS READY FOR PIANO?
- We’ll schedule an interview and afterward I’ll tell you what I think. Generally, I look for these things:
- interest in piano
- ability to sit on the bench (if physically possible) and interact with me at the keyboard
- ability to count to five.
- Knowledge of the first seven letters of the alphabet helps, but is not required.
I HAVE A CHILD THAT IS DIFFERENTLY ABLED. IS THERE A PLACE FOR THEM IN A PIANO STUDIO?
- Yes. Music is for everyone. I have had students with physical limitations as well as some with diagnosed anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, etc. Communication regarding this is very much appreciated.
MY CHILD DOESN’T WANT TO COMPETE. IS THAT OKAY?
- Yes. However, I do ask that students 18 and under participate in our recitals, which happen twice a year. There are many opportunities to play in competitions and festivals, and some students choose to do this. Some don’t. We can find a fit that is best for you.
DO YOU ALLOW PARENTS TO SIT IN ON THE LESSONS?
- Of course! Some parents choose to sit near the piano, some choose to sit in the waiting room with the door open, and some choose to wait in the car. Whatever makes you and your child comfortable is fine with me.
I DON’T LIVE IN OR NEAR SAN ANTONIO. DO YOU TEACH LESSONS REMOTELY?
- Yes. I also teach via FaceTime and Zoom. Please contact me via the contact form to discuss an interview time.
I HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION. HOW DO I CONTACT YOU?
- Please contact me here.
